Palmer High School in Colorado Springs was built in 1939. Recently, the district sought to replace the smoke vents in the school’s auditorium to improve acoustical performance. Acoustical smoke vents offer the functionality of a smoke vent, eliminating smoke from within a building during a fire, in a form designed to reduce the transmission of outdoor noises into the interior, while the vents are closed. Architects at LKA Partners selected four of the 5x7 acoustical smoke vents manufactured by The BILCO Company due to their impressive ability to mitigate noise transmission from exterior sources.
